While the all-new 5 Series promises to be better than ever, these top 10 features deserve special attention

The BMW 5 Series has always been one of the most popular luxury sedans in the market and has always been known for its supreme performance, premium cabin, and extensive features list. Positioned between the 3 Series and the more expensive and luxurious 7 Series, the BMW 5 Series still continues to command a strong demand in the market. To further spice up the competition, the Bavarian brand recently introduced the all-new 2024 BMW 5 Series with a number of updates and groundbreaking technology.

With its five new unique trim levels, a completely new chassis platform, a new dashboard, and updated powertrain options. The 2024 BMW 5 Series also became the first generation of the mid-size luxury sedan to be offered with a fully electric powertrain, which boasts a maximum power and torque output of 590 horsepower and 605 pound-feet respectively.

What makes this new eighth-generation 5 Series even more special is its super impressive design language, which is complemented by a sleek silhouette and a distinctive kidney grille. While the 2024 BMW 5 Series is offered with an array of modern features and tech, here are the top 10 features of the new 2024 BMW 5 Series that help it keep up with modern rivals like the Audi A6, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and the Genesis G80.

Hating waiting for someone? The built-in gaming console can be a great feature for you. While it may look gimmicky at first glance, it does offer some great features and offers the occupants an impressive gaming experience. This can also be a useful feature for those opting for the electric version of the car, as the new i5 takes close to half an hour to charge up to 80 percent.

The occupants can use the console to play games when the car is stationary. For those wondering, the AirConsole lets the player connect their smartphones as a controller by scanning a QR code. At the moment, over 30 games are available on AirConsole's servers. We have seen a number of brands including Tesla and Mercedes offering in-car gaming for a few years to keep the occupants entertained, especially during those long charging sessions.

The BMW i5, in addition to the strong power figures, also boasts new stroke-dependent control dampers on both axles as standard which not only improves the stability around the corners but also compensates for the vibrations caused by uneven roads surfaces to optimize ride comfort, handling, and dynamics. This new suspension setup also prevents excessive bouncing or rocking of the body on harsh surfaces.

In addition to this, the i5 comes equipped with rear-axle air suspension as standard. The self-leveling suspension not only ensures optimum ride height, but the individually regulated air supply can also compensate for uneven loading. The Stroke-Dependent Dampers adapt the firmness and responsiveness to provide a supple and compliant ride during normal cruising but firm up when the car is pushed through corners or during spirited driving to reduce body roll and improve the handling and agility of the car.

Available as an optional add-on, the Driving Assistance Professional Pack consists of a number of safety features and tech to make driving safe and stress-free. For starters, the Highway Assistant enables attentive hands-free driving at speeds up to 80 MPH in addition to other features like the world's first Active Lane Change with eye activation.

As part of this new eye-controlled lane change feature, the system suggests a lane change, which can then be confirmed by the driver by simply looking in the corresponding outside rearview mirror. Other than this, the car also gets features like active cruise control side collision avoidance, autonomous braking, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitor, and electronic stability control which not only make driving stress-free but also reduce the chances of collision by significant margins.

The new 2024 BMW 5 Series also comes with a new-generation smartphone app connectivity, convenient features, and a smart interface for the users. The new smartphone application, when used with a compatible smartphone, gives complete control of the vehicle to the users.

It not only gives all the updates including car mileage, door status, maintenance schedule, and range but also helps the users locate the car on the map and have instant support like scheduling a service appointment or starting a remote software update. Furthermore, the users can also use navigation, locate nearby charging stations, and manage their BMW account.

For those looking for a more sophisticated and premium cabin, the optional crystal-glass trim pack can be a great add-on to the already luxurious package. For starters, this optional trim pack gets hand-made, diamond-cut glass trim elements including the rocker switch in the center console, iDrive controller, and the Start/Stop button.

In addition to this, a number of other plastic trims on the dashboard too have been replaced with glass trim to complement the overall looks of the center console. BMW also offers a long list of upholstery options and trim packages for buyers looking to customize the car as per their individual preferences.

While a standard moonroof comes as a part of the package, the buyers can also opt for the optional sky lounge panoramic sunroof. Available for the first time in a BMW 5-Series, this optional panoramic sunroof spans over the front and rear passengers and also gets a powered sunshade to prevent excessive heat and glare.

The brand also claims that the advanced sunroof engineering ensures minimal wind noise and vibrations inside the cabin, thus maintaining a peaceful cabin atmosphere. Special glass coatings not only prevent harmful UV rays from entering the cabin but also keep a check on the overall heat filtering into the cabin on the sunniest days.

Unlike the modern BMW offerings, the new 2024 BMW 5 Series gets a smaller signature kidney grille with twin headlights on either side. The high-set headlights and a prominent front grille not only complement the overall aggressive front fascia of the car but in addition to this, also look modern despite its minimalist form.

Having said that, the brand is also offering an optional illuminated kidney grille with an LED contour line that gives it a distinctive sporty appeal. Not only is the illuminated kidney grille a striking and innovative feature, but also sets the car apart from most of its rivals with its bold character and stronger road presence.

The frameless glass surface BMW Curved Display is one of the main highlights of the cabin on the 2024 5 Series. This dual-screen setup consists of a 12.3-inch instrument console and a 14.9-inch infotainment system. Running on the brand's latest BMW Operating System 8.5, the new graphic display boasts a clear start screen and QuickSelect access for a fuss-free operation.

For those wondering, this setup can be controlled either by touch operations or using the BMW iDrive Controller on the center console. The driver can also operate the system using the steering-mounted controls and the BMW Gesture Control functionality. The new Operating System 8.5 not only comes with a number of new features but also offers a high level of customization to make the system easy to use and practical for everyday use.

The new 2024 BMW 5 Series not only retains the iconic four-light setup but also boasts the new Adaptive LED headlight technology which is not only brighter but also provides better contrast than the conventional Xenon lights. The adaptive lights adjust the light distribution dynamically based on the driving conditions and depend on an array of sensors including the cameras and the steering angles.

The system can also detect oncoming traffic and automatically adjust the direction of the light beams to optimize visibility without dazzling other users and reducing glare for the oncoming driver. The LEDs are significantly more efficient than the traditional bulbs and consume less power while also boasting a longer service life.

Available as a standard part of the package, the BMW's Personalized Parking Assistance feature is one of the major highlights and provides parallel and perpendicular parking support. The system features automatic steering, braking, acceleration, and gear changes during parking maneuvers.

It also gets Surround View and 3D view in addition to a Drive Recorder and Anti-Theft Recorder to further improve the overall practicality. The Parking Assistance feature not only makes parking in congested urban areas and tight places easier and more convenient but also minimizes the risk of a collision. The system can be activated using the infotainment system and precisely maneuvers the vehicle into the available parking spot.
